TAWG of War Champions 2024!
Team TAWG pulls off victory in a thrilling Tug of War showdown!
We had a wonderful day in the sunshine at the Martin House Dragon Boat Race on Sunday and raised £1,270 for an amazing charity.
The Training at Work Group team turned out in their masses, along with children, family and friends to support Team TAWG in both the dragon boat race and the tug of war competition.
After an overcast start, the sun came out and created a carnival-like atmosphere, just in time for the racing to start.
Boat Race 1
Led by Sade on the drum, the first boat race team finished second with an impressive time of 1 minute 8.79 seconds.
Tug of War Round 1
Closely after was the first round of the tug of war. Team TAWG were up against digital consultants Tribus Digital and made quick work of it with a strong 2-0 victory to proceed to the next round.
Boat Race 2
The second boat race team, which saw Marie as the drummer, finished third with a slightly quicker time of 1 minute 8.14 seconds.
Tug of War Round 2
Next up in the tug of war was the security company Gough & Kelly, who put up a tough fight. However, Team TAWG battled on to win 2-1 and advance to the next round.
Boat Race 3
The third boat race proved to be our best of the day. With Rob on the drum, the team managed to find their rhythm and secured victory with an impressive time of 1 minute 2.79 seconds. Hailed as the third quickest time of the day, the team qualified for the final round.
Tug of War Round 3
While putting up a stern fight in the tug of war, Leeds Utd Academy weren’t quite strong enough, with Team TAWG marching on to a 2-1 win and advancing to the semi final.

Boat Race Final
The final race saw the 8 quickest teams from the qualifying heats line up for one final push. By this point, the temperature had topped 26 degrees and fatigue had clearly set in. After a shaky start, Team TAWG dug deep and fought hard, finishing in a respectable 5th place.
Tug of War Semi Final
Exhausted from the boat race final, our team now lined up against Pinderfields Hospital in the tug of war semi final. Both teams fought bravely, with Team TAWG proving victorious and advancing to the final with a 2-1 victory.
Tug of War Final
So after 5 boat races, and 13 tug of war bouts, it all came down to one last huge effort for Team TAWG. We faced Howard Civil Engineering, a formidable opponent who had been making light work of all in their path.
We edged the first bout, after a very close battle. The second bout went to Howard Civil, and in the third and final bout, Team TAWG stood firm and got the win, becoming the Dragon Boat Race Tug of War Champions 2024!

“Well Done to Training at Work Group for joining us at the Dragon Boat Race this year and winning the Tug of War! This event has such a huge impact on the help we provide at the hospice. So far we have raised £75,000 and we can’t thank you all enough!”
