Leeds South Food Bank

Our Marketing Manager Rob went to meet Sinead at Leeds South and East Foodbank today to donate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

The foodbank, which started in October 2013 with just one distribution centre, has now increased to 11 distribution centres within South and East Leeds.

The project was founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in the local area.

There are a variety of reasons why people need help from the foodbank, such as low income, benefit changes and delays, and delayed wages.

“After speaking with Sinead and understanding the tireless work that she and the team carry out, we decided we wanted to help in some way. We hope that the team will never have to use the defib, yet it provides reassurance knowing that it is available to them. We also hope to have some of the team volunteer at one of the foodbanks later this year.” – Rob

The food bank has seen a 30% increase in the need for food parcels in South and East Leeds in the year 2022-23, with 40% of the people they supported last year being children. In total, their foodbanks supported 14,345 local people with emergency food last year.

We are so pleased to have been donated a defibrillator by Training at Work Group. We accommodate a vast amount of people in our warehouse and centres and it is so reassuring to know we have that extra level of Aid should anyone need it. – Wendy Doyle, Operations Manager
